Doha, Capital of Islamic Youth 2019
The Doha Muslim Youth Forum kicks off today at QNCC, under the theme of “Youth is the power of the nation”, which is part of the activities of Doha, Capital of Islamic Youth 2019.
The Forum which is being organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports will continue until July 11, hosting around 90 young people representing 57 countries of the Islamic world, including Qatari 20 youth, participating in the forum.
The Forum is organized in cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Islamic Youth Cooperation Forum, the youth wing of the Organization of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), and under the supervision and organization of the Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events.
The agenda of the forum discuss issues related to youth including good governance and transparency among youth, importance of sustainable development, youth and social media, and diplomatic simulations.
These discussions are accompanied by three workshops.
His Excellency Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, Minister of Culture and Sports, described the Doha Forum for Islamic Youth as “a unique event” at this particular stage where the Islamic nations are facing many challenges.
The forum will contribute to the promotion of cultural exchange among young Muslims providing an interactive platform for youth coming from different Islamic countries to learn from and about each other.
“This forum is an opportunity to empower young people by expanding their participation and initiative, building capacities and promoting cultural diversity as a value on which to build joint ventures and to connect young people from other countries and cultures,” he said.
The Minister added that “It is not possible to achieve sustainability without the availability of these elements and our bet on our youth is a basic value bet, emphasizing the central role of youth”.
The motto “Youth is the power of the nation”, will be the theme of Doha, the Islamic Youth Capital 2019the throughout the year.
For his part, Dr Issa Al-Hur, Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Doha Youth Capital 2019, said the forum will be a great opportunity for young people representing about 56 countries to exchange ideas and discuss different issues.
Dr. Al-Hur said that the youth participating in the forum will discuss various issues that will be presented at the forum, in addition to the workshops where the “young people will discuss the problem and develop solutions to these problems by themselves”.
He added: “All this will contribute to the introduction of the youth to the nature of the problems facing them, and how to develop appropriate solutions”. This will encourage theme to formulation of decisions, and think how to implement, on the basis of the information they obtained and discussions taking place.”
After all these discussions, Dr Al-hur said youth will be trained on the model of the Islamic Co-operation Organisation summit, and the rules and procedures of the model and discussions between governments taking into account proposals that have been presented to the summit, discussions and workshops. This put the youth in to positions the first is to identify the nature of the problem, and the second to find solution” Dr Al Hur explained.
Dr. Issa al-Hurr described this mechanism as “brilliant because force the young people to make decisions, and think of their implementation”.
From these young people will gain leadership skills, identify the nature of the problems, and how to address them by finding appropriate solutions.
Dr. Al-Hur appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Sports in organizing such forums and providing all necessary supports of logistics.
As well as the efforts and role of the Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events for its supervision and organization of this forum and provision of all needs to ensure its success.
For her part Aisha Al Mahmoud, Director of Public Relations and Communication at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, said that all necessary preparations for the Forum, which brings together youth from the Islamic world, have been completed.
Doha is the destination of the Islamic youth, and welcome with open arms its guests in order to exchange ideas and opinions on various issues of interest to the future generation, “who must take an effective role in these discussions by themselves.” She said.
She added that since the event is directed at the youth, it is organized by Qatari youth confirming that young people are the backbone of the future and that they are able to make their own future.
The motto of Doha, Capital of the Islamic youth 2019, “Youth is the power of the nation”, indicate that the Islamic nation will stand up at the hands of its youth, Al Mahmoud stressed.
“The efforts to make the Forum a success have been appreciated,” and all efforts to achieve this goal, which is a success and an effective feature, have been combined she added.
She pointed out that the large number of participants reflects the confidence of these young people on Doha, and the support and empowerment it is offering to the Qatari and Islamic youth.
Youth are the future
In his turn, Fawaz Al-Missifri, Head of Youth Centers and Clubs Department in the Department of Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Culture and Sports and Vice-Chairman of the Technical Committee for Doha Youth Capital 2019, said that the Forum’s theme “Youth is the power of the nation”, confirms the fact that the Islamic nations will stand up and achieve sustainable development and cultural advancement at the hand of its youth she said.
The Forum was particularly important as it involved young people in addressing their issues and sought to resolve them by themselves. To achieve this, the Forum will present researches related to strategy-building, sustainable development and the future.
He continued: “The Forum will devellop the capacities of young people in the face of the challenges of civilization and development, and take advantage of modern means of communication in promoting the values of belonging and citizenship.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Culture and Sports provided all the necessary resources to ensure success of this forum in which young people exchange ideas on different issues related to the youth and the region.
“Qatari youth will take part in all discussions and workshops accompanied the forum. Qatari youth will participate with a delegation of 20 young people, and this forum will certainly be useful to them by introducing and interacting with the youth representing about 57 Muslim.
Provision of necessary support
Muayed Al Qahtani, Head of Public Relations at Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events, said that the center is keen to provide all the necessary supports and resources including various forms of logistical support and accommodations for the participants.
Al-Qahtani outlined the nature of the Center’s efforts in this regard to oversee the organization of the forum by saying that all preparations for the reception of the participants have been completed. Noting the efforts of the youth team who successfully completed the preparation for this distinguished forum, to achieve the motto of the event he added.
Hamad Abdullatif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Youth Advisory Committee of the Minister of Culture and Sports stressed the importance of the Forum which lies in the participation of youth of different nationalities in the discussion and accompanying workshops, which will be reflected positively on all youth learning from the ideas, opinions and proposals aiming to activate the role of youth in their respective countries.
Al Nuaimi said that the Forum reflects the openness of the State of Qatar and its youth to cooperation with all through active participation and constructive dialogue among young people. The State of Qatar believes in the importance of the role of young people in the renaissance of societies and that the choice of the slogan of the event and activities of Doha, Capital of the Islamic Youth 2019 confirms the reality of this role.
Opportunities for empowerment of youth
Khadija Ahmed Al Buhailika, member of the Advisory Committee of the Minister of Culture and Sports, said that the forum will be an important opportunity to integrate young people participating in the forum, which is one of the most important events for young people.
She highlighted the importance of the forum and the main topics that will be discussed by young people, especially the good governance and youth, youth and their role in sustainable development, youth and the safe use of social media and diplomatic activities.
She stressed that the forum will not stop at these aspects only, but will see the establishment of workshops to discuss each subject.
She said that the Organizing Committee has integrated many active young people into the community to be part of this forum either through the Qatari youth delegation or through the workshops, or participation in the jury committees.
She also stressed the importance of the Forum to highlight the role of Qatari youth and their empower by delivering them a wide range of areas of work and creativity, noting that this is not new to the State of Qatar, which achieves excellence in various fields.
