A number of ministers and guests from Arab and Islamic countries participate at the opening ceremony to value the selection of Doha to be the Capital of Islamic Youth 2019
Under the motto ‘Youth is the Power of the Nation’, an array of special events have been designed to be organized in Qatar this year as part of celebrations of “Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019”.
DOHA: Under the patronage of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani attended today (April 28, 2019) the launching ceremony of the activities of “Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019”.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and in collaboration with the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), and supervision of Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events.
It is being held under the motto ‘Youth is the Power of the Nation ’, and aims at strengthening the bonds of friendship and respect that the State of Qatar brings together with many countries in the world, especially the Islamic world.
The ceremony was attended by a number of ministers, senior officials from Islamic countries, as well as ambassadors accredited to the State of Qatar and representatives of ICYF and youth delegates from Islamic countries.
The selection of Doha took place recently in Istanbul after the activities of Al Quds as the Capital of Islamic Youth for the year 2018.
Speaking at the ceremony on the behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Saeed Al Marri, Vice Chairman of Qatari Center of Social Cultural for the Deaf expressed his happiness for the selection of Doha as the Capital of Islamic Youth 2019, which ‘reflects the position of Qatar and its support to youth and the keenness to empower them’.
Al Marri also expressed great happiness that the event will be organized by the Qatari youth, who expressed great enthusiasm to organize it in a way that is appropriate for the State of Qatar in support of young people and to enhance their position.
He stressed that the activities will contribute significantly to the cultural rapprochement among youth, as well as the exchange of experiences and ideas among them.
A significant number of youth participated in the ceremony, and expressed concerns over the issues they were collectively facing in different parts of the world. They also presented their ideas on how to address youth issues.
The key of ‘Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019’ was handed over during the ceremony, and will remain in Doha throughout the year of 2019, then to be handed over to the country that will be the host country of the Youth Capital of 2020.
The motto of ‘Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019’ is ‘Youth is the power of the nation’, that reflects the main role of youth in consolidating the values of unity, cooperation and dialogue.
The slogan stems from the challenges being faced by the youth of the Islamic world, which extend to different civilizations.
Throughout Muslim history, Islamic youth have faced many challenges, including the challenges faced by the early Muslims who believed in the message of the Prophet (PBUH). Since then, young Muslims have continued to translate faith in the renaissance of the nation.
It also emphasizes the need to empower young people to manage public affairs and achieve sustainable development strategies.
The motto also reinforces the idea that in every civilization cycle, youth play a leading role whenever they believe that change begins with self-change.
It also reflects Doha’s keenness to be a suitable place of choice for young people to interact and discusses main issues that concern them, and to activate the conditions of empowerment for a better life for Islamic societies.
The activities of “Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019” varied from a number of activities, programs and festivals which will take place in Doha, with the participation of youth delegations from various Islamic countries to allow youth to discuss many current issues.
The event meets the strategy of the Ministry of Culture and Sports that is based on empowering young people through implementation and management of activities and programs.
“The launch of “Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019” activities represents a unique event in which the youth of Qatar express their role in enhancing the gains of the State and their responsibility to continue to build their progress,” said Hussein bin Rashid Al Kubaisi, Director of the Department of Youth Affairs.
“The motto of the event which is ‘The Youth is the Power of the Nation’ demonstrates the role played by young people in the renaissance of Islamic societies,” he said adding that the Ministry of Culture and Sports employs all its capabilities, and experience in order to organize the activities of “Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019”.
For his part, Dr. Issa Al Hur, Head of Youth Development and Empowerment Section at the Ministry of Culture and Sports said that Qatar has been chosen to be the capital of Islamic Youth due to what has been achieved by the country in this regard to empower youth, support their innovations and creations, and provide them spaces to work better.
Executive Director of Qatar Scientific Club, Dr. Hareb Al Jabri, said: “Scientific Club will participate in this event by ‘Doha Space for Innovation Activity’ through organizing a competition involving 56 innovators from Islamic countries, and this competition will be an exhibition of their innovations.”
He pointed out that the competition will be subject to an international arbitration committee that will meet all international standards.
Muayed Al Qahtani, Head of Public Relations at the Qatar Cultural and Heritage Events Center, said that it is a major event and “we are proud of this hospitality because they are the youth of the nation.”
He stressed in this context that the Qatar Cultural and Heritage Events Center is organizing and supervising the events associated with the celebration. The Center has provided all its capabilities to organize the events in a suitable manner.
Noura Tamimi, vice president of the Youth Advisory Committee of the Minister of Culture and Sports said: “One of the primary objectives of “Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019” is to provide a one-year phase to enhance cooperation among member states in the area of youth policy, as well as to develop solidarity among Muslim youth and promote intercultural diversity.”
The selection of Doha means that it is as a platform for dialogue, a forum for cultures, tolerance and openness to civilizations, as well as for its efforts to strengthen the role of youth in their societies, she added.
It should be noted that the file of the nomination of the State of Qatar to be The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019 was organized and supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and was unanimously approved by the member states of the Organization of the Islamic Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation at Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
The selection came in recognition of Qatar’s efforts in supporting and empowering the Islamic youth.
